Bugs Killed
Problems I have seen killed on Windows and Mac, with the steps that killed them.
Each page says where it comes from: a repair I made, a repair by someone from XL.net, or published sources you can open. The steps are one quick check away.

Website would not load until DNS servers were changed
The website would not open on the affected Windows computers. Changing the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 restored access, and the site loaded normally afterward.

The printer would no longer print from the computer after it was disconnected during a move. The printer was successfully set up again on the machine.

Copying files to a USB drive was blocked by a BitLocker-related policy. The technician modified the policy and then had the requestor retest; the issue was reported resolved.

A remote VPN login problem was caused by an expired domain password. The password was reset, a new password was set, and VPN access was verified working normally again.

Both copiers were unavailable. Restarting the stuck backend server restored printing.

A shared printer could not be added on a Windows PC because printer permissions were restricting the install. The technician updated the device permissions, installed the printer from the shared server location, and confirmed it by printing a test page.

Tape backup job was changed to back up the full virtual machine
The tape backup was rebuilt so it backed up the whole virtual machine instead of individual shares, then it was scheduled and completed successfully. The run used two tapes and left one free tape.

Outlook opened only in Safe Mode and showed a profile selection prompt
Outlook would not open normally. The correct profile was selected and the startup prompt to choose a profile was removed, which restored normal opening.

The laptop powered on but showed a completely dark screen. The technician got it booted normally again and checked the logs, but there were no logs since yesterday so the cause could not be confirmed.

The computer was slow because two antivirus products were active at the same time. Sophos Endpoint Protection was removed because it was not managed locally.

A meeting-room PC showed a slideshow screensaver error. The technician checked the screensaver settings, moved the slideshow images into the correct folder to match a working computer, and retested until the error stopped appearing.

Windows did not find the network printer in Add a Printer or Scanner. The printer was added manually by IP address, then a test page was printed to confirm it worked.

SentinelOne blocked the ActivID ActivClient installer
ActivID ActivClient would not install because SentinelOne was blocking the installer. An exclusion was added for the installer, the software was installed, and the computer was rebooted to finish the install.

Desk phone shows a red X and will not place calls
The phone displayed a red X and was not working. A reset was performed by removing power, holding 1+3+5, then powering it back on; after that the phone showed the correct date/time and could place outbound calls.

Foot pedal would not stay connected until both computers were rebooted
The foot pedal was disconnected and would not connect properly. Rebooting both computers and reconnecting the pedal restored the connection, and the pedal was tested as working.

VPN verify error cleared by syncing the computer time
After a power outage, the computer could not reconnect to VPN and showed a repeated "verify error" / reconnect loop. Syncing the computer to the correct time resolved the issue and VPN connected successfully.

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE at OEM logo during boot
The PC booted only to the OEM logo and then stopped with an INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE stop code, with no advanced options or recovery environment available. It was sent for on-site warranty repair and was later reported working properly.

Low disk space from old local profiles
The computer was reporting that it was out of memory because the system drive was critically low on free space. Older local profiles were removed, which freed about 60 GB.

A Windows machine was crashing after about five minutes of use and forcing a shutdown. The technician found Smartcard driver errors, ran the latest Windows and driver updates, and corrected system file errors; after reboot, the machine had not crashed again.

Print jobs to the plotter failed with a printer-not-responding message. The technician identified a connection issue as the likely root cause, said it was already fixed, and noted the change may take time to propagate before printing works again.

SolidWorks licensing was failing. The technician reactivated the licenses in SolidWorks SolidNetwork License Manager 2023.

Remote connection to the new PC was failing. The technician enabled remote access on the target machine, and the user later confirmed they could connect.

The laptop camera showed a black image or would not open during video calls. The technician checked camera settings and driver updates, then uninstalled and reinstalled the camera driver and rebooted; the camera worked normally afterward.

The email contact needed for scan-to-email was not showing up in the printer address book. The contact was moved into the correct group and then added to the printer address book so it could be found in the right place.

The user was connected to VPN but could not open Microsoft Access or reach the U: drive. The issue was resolved by removing old cached credential entries and remapping the drives, then confirming Access worked.

Slow cloud-session response with high ping; user was moved to a newer laptop
The laptop felt extremely slow because the cloud session had high ping, causing long delays after link clicks. Drivers were updated, Dell Optimizer was removed, power settings were adjusted, and the user was moved to a newer laptop; the new laptop connected successfully and performed better.

The VPN connection failed because the laptop had an unstable network connection. The issue was resolved by rebooting the laptop and refreshing the network connection.

The computer could not connect remotely from home because the shortcut did not include the RD Gateway settings it needed. The shortcut was updated and the connection issue was resolved.

Additional cleanup was performed on the Windows workstation, which increased free space to 39 GB. Large files in the Downloads folder were identified as remaining space usage.

The external app connection could not be used because the group assigned for SSO did not include the user. The user was added to the correct group and the app assignment was updated to use that group.

Apps were crashing and one app had to be launched multiple times. A scan found corrupted files and the system was repaired, but the restart was deferred because files were still open on the desktop.

Brother HL-3700DW print jobs kept spinning until the printer was reinstalled
Printing was stuck spinning and documents would not come out. The old printer entries were removed, the Brother HL-3700DW was reinstalled with Brother's official driver package, and the printer was set as default after a successful test print.

Specific computers were still restricted from using USB mass storage because the policy exclusions were out of date. The technician added the current PCs to the exclusion list, removed the old PCs, and forced a policy refresh; a reboot may still be needed.

A CAD project hit a file-too-long error while drawings were being added. The issue was resolved by shortening the path through renaming the parent folders.

RemotePC connections were failing with repeated sign-in prompts and an "already logged in" message. The RemotePC service was restarted on the affected servers and the user was asked to try again.

The computer appeared frozen in a remote desktop session: the mouse moved but nothing else responded. The technician rebooted the virtual machine, replaced the old Remote Desktop app with Windows App, and reconnected; after startup programs loaded, the system ran normally and programs opened without issues.

The user could not get into the computer until the key from the secure link was used. Support had the user try the key, confirmed they could access the computer, and then closed the ticket.

Vendor support changed the laptop's local BitLocker group policy and then tested multiple restarts. The startup prompt no longer appeared during those checks.

Printer redirection in AVD was missing until the laptop's printer stack was refreshed
The HP SmartTank 5101 would not redirect into AVD. The full driver package was installed on the physical laptop, old printers were removed, both the laptop and AVD were rebooted, and the redirected printer was verified as working.

Sync and download problems caused by low storage space
The computer showed sync/download problems where files and folders appeared downloaded on the machine but other team members could not access or see them, and some folders lagged for days. The issue was resolved by clearing temporary files to free up storage space.

Java file opens as an unknown blank file and prompts for Open With
Windows was treating the affected Java-linked file as an unrecognized white blank file instead of launching Java. The file association was repaired by pointing it to javaws in the installed Java 8 bin folder, and the app opened normally.

The laptop was crashing after a crash report in Event Viewer pointed to the NVIDIA driver. The newer NVIDIA driver was downloaded and installed, and testing showed programs opened and an Illustrator file could be saved without crashing.

Computer was offline because it was on guest Wi‑Fi and an inactive Ethernet wall port
The machine had no working internet after the move. The Ethernet cable was moved to an active wall port, the computer was connected to the main Wi‑Fi, and internet access was restored; dock firmware and Type‑C USB firmware were also updated and monitor settings were checked.
