Bugs Killed
Problems I have seen killed on Windows and Mac, with the steps that killed them.

PDFs would not open because the app processes were unresponsive
Opening a PDF produced an error because the PDF application's processes were unresponsive. The technician ended the stuck processes, restarted the machine, and cleared temporary files.

Workstation clock was several minutes fast and stayed wrong after reboot and time zone changes
The system clock was running about 4–5 minutes fast even after reboots, changing time zones, and with automatic time enabled. The technician forced a time resync and the clock returned to normal.

Broad application slowdown caused by firewall connection attempts
All applications on the laptop were slow to connect and open files or email. The technician said a high number of attempted connections were hitting the firewall and that the firewall was isolated to stop the slowdown from continuing.

Scam browser pop-ups claiming the computer is infected
Firefox was showing adware-style pop-ups that said the computer was infected and pushed a phone number to call. The technician blocked the sites sending the notifications, and the pop-ups stopped.

Laptop powers on with no display until power is drained
The laptop had no display. The issue was resolved by draining the power with a 15-second power-button hold, then powering it back on.

VPN failure caused by an outdated NetExtender install
The VPN issue was traced to an outdated NetExtender app. The outdated copy was removed and the newer version was installed, which resolved the issue.

Laptop display issue with the lid closed
The laptop screen was not displaying correctly in the closed-lid setup. Adjusting the monitor settings fixed the display.

VPN connection failed because the SSL certificate on the firewall expired
VPN access failed because the public-facing SSL certificate on the firewall had expired. Installing the replacement SSL certificate resolved the connection issue and the user was able to connect again.

One monitor lost expected resolution options and the display layout changed
One monitor was not showing all expected resolution choices, and the primary monitor/numbering had changed. The technician restarted the dock and the computer, then corrected the screen resolution and monitor arrangement so all displays were working normally.

Duet Display would not install because antivirus protection blocked the app. The issue was resolved by allowing the application to be installed.
