Microsoft Intune Management Extension service stops unexpectedly
On affected managed Windows devices, the Intune Management Extension service stops or repeatedly crashes. Intune policies, PowerShell scripts, and Win32 app actions might then stop applying.
Killed once by me, on 2026-09-14.
Affects
Apps
- Microsoft Intune Management Extension
What you see
- The IntuneManagementExtension service starts, crashes almost immediately, and repeats the cycle.
- Windows says it will restart the service in 60000 milliseconds.
- Intune policies, PowerShell scripts, or Win32 app actions stop applying.
- App installation and computer provisioning stop working.
Why it happens
Suspected A damaged or partially downloaded Win32 app in the local Intune Management Extension cache is a suspected trigger when the logs repeatedly identify the same app. [2]
When it shows up
The IntuneManagementExtension service stops unexpectedly or repeatedly starts and crashes.
You are in this case if:
- The service starts, crashes almost immediately, and repeats the same cycle.
- Windows reports that the corrective action is to restart the service after 60000 milliseconds.
- IntuneManagementExtension.log, AgentExecutor.log, or the Intune ManagementExtension event log repeatedly shows the same app ID, which is the app's identifying GUID.

- Before clearing an app cache or reinstalling the extension across multiple devices, test the change on one affected device and confirm that the service remains stable.
