ThinkPad would not power back on until a hard power reset
The laptop would not turn on after it died. Holding the power button for 20 seconds with AC disconnected, then reconnecting power and turning it on, brought it up normally.

Affects
Hardware
- ThinkPad laptop
What you see
- Laptop would not turn back on after it had died.
- Normal power-on did nothing until a hard power reset was done.
Why it happens
Likely Likely stuck in a bad power state after the laptop lost power.
When it shows up
A ThinkPad appears completely dead after battery drain or a power loss and will not start with a normal power-button press.
You are in this case if:
- With AC unplugged, holding the power button for about 20 seconds is needed before it will boot.
- After AC is reconnected, the laptop starts normally.
