Windows
Teams freezes the computer when joining meetings
Joining a Teams meeting was freezing the whole computer and forcing a restart. The technician checked crash logs, reinstalled Teams, updated the graphics driver, rebooted the PC, and ran a Windows file scan; a test call then worked normally.
Killed once by someone from XL.net, on 2026-04-20.
Affects
Versions
- Windows
Apps
- Microsoft Teams
What you see
- Computer freezes when joining a Teams meeting
- System does not become usable again until after a restart
Why it happens
Suspected A Windows process was crashing around the meeting time; the technician suspected the graphics driver was involved. Teams itself did not show as crashing in the logs.
When it shows up
A Windows computer freezes only when the user joins a Teams meeting, and logs show a Windows process crash near that time rather than a Teams crash.
You are in this case if:
- Event Viewer or crash logs show a Windows process crash around the meeting time
- No crash record for Teams itself
