Affects
Hardware
- Surface
What you see
- Network connection starts out working, then drops and the computer goes offline after roughly an hour.
Why it happens
Likely Suspected: pending Windows, driver, and firmware updates, plus the wireless profile not being set to connect automatically.
When it shows up
A Surface is losing its network connection and Windows Update shows a backlog of updates, including drivers and firmware, or the Wi‑Fi profile is not set to reconnect automatically.
You are in this case if:
- Windows Update has multiple pending updates, including driver and firmware items.
- The wireless connection is not set to Connect Automatically.
