SSL certificate renewal stuck in validation

The SSL certificate renewal did not complete because it stayed in validation. A new CSR was submitted, a replacement certificate was issued, and the renewed certificate was installed on the server.

Killed once by someone from XL.net, on 2026-02-10.

What you see

  • Certificate renewal stayed in an 'In Validation' status.
  • The certificate could not be renewed normally until support issued a replacement certificate.

Why it happens

Likely The renewal workflow was stalled in certificate validation.

When it shows up

An SSL certificate renewal is stuck in validation instead of completing normally.

You are in this case if:

  • Certificate portal shows the renewal as 'In Validation'.
  • Support says the renewal cannot proceed until validation is completed.
