Slow startup and general lag; SFC repaired corrupted system files

The machine was slow to start and lagged during normal use. System File Checker found corrupted files, they were repaired, the machine was rebooted, and Windows Update with hardware driver updates was applied; the hardware scan was normal.

Killed once by someone from XL.net, on 2026-05-01.

What you see

  • Slow startup on power on or restart
  • General lag during normal usage
  • Browser slowdowns during heavier web tasks
  • Fans becoming loud intermittently even under low usage

Why it happens

Likely Corrupted operating-system files were found and repaired; the exact trigger for the corruption was not established.

When it shows up

A Windows laptop is sluggish at startup and during ordinary work, and System File Checker finds corrupted files.

You are in this case if:

  • sfc /scannow reports corrupted files
  • Hardware scan shows no hardware faults
  • Temperature readings are normal when the fan-noise complaint appears
