Slow cloud-session response with high ping; user was moved to a newer laptop

The laptop felt extremely slow because the cloud session had high ping, causing long delays after link clicks. Drivers were updated, Dell Optimizer was removed, power settings were adjusted, and the user was moved to a newer laptop; the new laptop connected successfully and performed better.

Killed once by someone from XL.net, on 2026-04-02.

Affects

Apps

  • Dell Command
  • Dell Optimizer

Hardware

  • laptop

What you see

  • Long wait between clicking an internet link and the page starting to load.
  • Cloud-session ping is high even though the laptop-side ping is good over Ethernet.

Why it happens

Likely Likely high ping on the cloud side; the local laptop ping was good once Ethernet was connected.

When it shows up

A laptop is slow only while using a cloud session, and click-to-load delays are accompanied by high ping in the cloud path but normal ping on the laptop side.

You are in this case if:

  • High ping on the cloud side
  • Good ping on the laptop side after Ethernet is connected
  • Dell Optimizer is present on the laptop
