ScanSnap Home was outdated and would not connect to the iX1600 scanner

ScanSnap Home could not connect to the USB 3.0 ScanSnap iX1600 scanner and kept failing during setup. The technician removed ScanSnap Home, rebooted the PC, and installed the latest version with admin credentials; the scanner then detected correctly and a test scan succeeded.

Affects

Apps

  • ScanSnap Home

Hardware

  • ScanSnap iX1600 scanner

What you see

  • Error connecting to the USB 3.0 scanner
  • ScanSnap Home repeatedly failed to connect even after reseating the USB cable and power-cycling the scanner

Why it happens

Likely The installed ScanSnap Home version was outdated and would not update unless it was run as an administrator.

When it shows up

ScanSnap Home on Windows cannot connect to a ScanSnap iX1600 over USB and the installed app is outdated or will not update without elevation

You are in this case if:

  • ScanSnap Home reports connection failure during scanner setup
  • The installed ScanSnap Home copy cannot update unless launched with administrator rights
