Repeated RDP session freezes/disconnects from a misconfigured connection file
Users were getting repeated freezes and disconnects in remote desktop sessions and had to force log out and sign back in. The technician built, tested, and then pushed a fix that updates the existing RDP connection file/settings and places a corrected RDP file on the public desktop for new profiles.

Affects
Versions
- Windows
Apps
- Remote Desktop
What you see
- Remote desktop sessions freeze or disconnect repeatedly.
- The user has to force log out and log back in to recover the session.
Why it happens
Likely Likely a bad setting in the saved RDP connection file that needed to be corrected for affected users.
When it shows up
A Windows machine uses saved .rdp files to connect to remote servers and users report frequent freezes or disconnects in those sessions.
You are in this case if:
- Existing .rdp files on the machine need the same setting corrected.
- A corrected RDP file is being deployed to new profiles from the public desktop.

Keeping it away
- Run the correction periodically so machines that were offline get the fix when they come back online.
- Keep the corrected RDP file available for new user profiles so old copies do not keep getting reused.
