Windows
Remote Windows machine would not wake display or respond after idle time
The machine would not bring the monitors back on and would not respond to button presses after being left idle. The technician forced a shutdown, disabled the inactivity limit, ran SFC and DISM, and confirmed the remote apps still worked.
Killed once by someone from XL.net, on 2025-10-09.
What you see
- Monitors stay off after the machine has been idle.
- The machine does not respond to button presses or wake requests.
- Remote peripherals stop responding along with the display.
Why it happens
Likely Likely lost its connection to the network and peripherals after a period of inactivity.
When it shows up
A remote Windows machine works normally, then after being idle it will not wake the display or respond to input.
You are in this case if:
- An inactivity limit is enabled in the machine's power or idle settings.
- The failure appears only after a period of inactivity rather than at startup.
