Windows
Printer installed but scanning needed the Scan app workaround
The printer/scanner setup installed, but scanning did not have a usable vendor scanner driver. The technician installed the Scan application as a workaround and added its shortcut to the taskbar.

Affects
Versions
- Windows
Apps
- Scan
Hardware
- printer/scanner
What you see
- Printing works, but scanning from the new machine does not use the scanner normally.
- The vendor driver package does not provide a working scanner driver for the device.
Why it happens
Likely Likely the scanner driver was unavailable in the vendor package or from the vendor site, so the scanner part could not be installed normally.
When it shows up
A printer is set up but the scanner side still fails and the usual driver install does not provide a working scan path.
You are in this case if:
- The vendor full-driver package installs without a usable scanner driver.
- The Scan application is available on the machine and can choose a scanner device.
- Scans are saved to the user's Scan folder.
