Windows
Print jobs produced no error but nothing printed because a duplicate printer entry was present
Printing showed no error message, but nothing happened when a print job was sent. Testing found two printer entries using the same IP; the non-working entry was removed and printing worked from the remaining one.
Killed once by someone from XL.net, on 2025-12-15.
Affects
Hardware
- network printer
What you see
- Nothing happens when trying to print.
- No error message appears when the print job is sent.
Why it happens
Likely A duplicate printer entry with the same IP was selected; one of the two printer entries did not print.
When it shows up
A Windows computer has more than one printer entry pointing at the same IP and print jobs complete with no error but no output.
You are in this case if:
- Two printer entries share the same IP address.
- A test print works from one printer entry but not the other.
- Sending a print job produces no error message.
