Low disk space on a Windows PC caused by cached temporary and update files
The machine was almost out of storage. Temporary files, Windows Update leftovers, and cached bloatware data were cleaned up, which freed about 31 GB.
Killed once by someone from XL.net, on 2026-08-18.
What you see
- Storage on the computer was almost full.
- The user wanted to prevent problems that can happen when the system drive is low on space.
Why it happens
Likely Likely accumulated temporary files, Windows Update data, and cached bloatware files were consuming most of the free space.
When it shows up
A Windows computer has very low free disk space and cleanup is needed to recover storage.
You are in this case if:
- System drive shows very little free space in File Explorer or Storage settings.
- Cleanup categories such as Temporary files or Windows Update cleanup are present and large.
