Likely The laptop was likely entering hibernate instead of staying in ordinary sleep.
When it shows up
A Windows laptop sleeps normally at first but, after being idle for a long period, it will not wake and instead needs a reboot.
You are in this case if:
- Sleep transitions into hibernate after roughly an hour idle.
- No wake occurs when resuming from sleep and the power button must be used to restart the machine.
