Excel prompts for activation because a non-licensed Office account is signed in
Excel was reporting that it needed to be activated. The fix was to remove the secondary Office account that did not have a valid license so only the licensed account remained signed in.

Affects
Apps
- Excel
- Office apps
What you see
- Excel says it needs to be activated.
- Office apps are accessible from more than one signed-in account.
Why it happens
Likely A secondary Office account without a valid license was signed in alongside the active licensed account.
When it shows up
Excel or other Office apps show an activation prompt even though the user has a valid license, and the Office account list includes another signed-in account.
You are in this case if:
- Office apps show multiple signed-in accounts.
- One of the signed-in accounts does not have an active license.
