Windows

Cursor could not move between two displays after hub replacement

The desktop was not set up as an extended display, so the pointer would not cross between the two screens. The technician reset the display settings, checked the screen order, and set the main display as needed.

Affects

Versions

  • Windows

Hardware

  • dual displays
  • hub

What you see

  • Cursor stays on one screen and will not move to the other display.

Why it happens

Likely Display mode was set incorrectly after the hub change, so the screens were duplicated or not arranged as an extended desktop.

When it shows up

A Windows computer has two displays, but the cursor will not move from one screen to the other after a hub or dock change.

You are in this case if:

  • Display settings shows Duplicate these displays instead of Extend these displays.
  • The same Display settings page has Identify and screen arrangement controls.
  • The main display can be changed from the display layout view.

Keeping it away

  • After replacing a hub or dock, confirm the computer is set to Extend before closing the ticket.
