Claude Desktop needed a per-user install after an admin install
Claude Desktop was first installed with admin access, but it is a per-user installer so it also had to be installed in the user's own account. After the reinstall, the user signed in and confirmed the app worked.

Affects
Apps
- Claude Desktop
What you see
- Installer needed elevated admin clearance to proceed.
- The app was not fully set up for the user until it was installed again under that user's account.
Why it happens
Likely Claude Desktop was installed under an admin account first, but it is a per-user installer and also needed to be installed under the signed-in user's account.
When it shows up
A Windows user can only get Claude Desktop installed with elevated permissions, but the app still needs to be present in the user's own account context.
You are in this case if:
- Claude Desktop is the app being installed.
- The installer behaves like a per-user install rather than a machine-wide install.
- An admin-account install alone does not leave the app working for the user.
